david:hello everyone and welcome to another episode of the daily english podcast. my name is david and i’m here today with chris and today we are going
to be talking about stress. stress, stress, stress.
what makes us feel stress and what can we do about it? i have a few ideas, but i wanted to just ask you chris, do you experience a lot of stress in your life?
chris: i certainly have at different times. at the moment i would say i’m in a period of not particularly high stress, but i’ve certainly had times when i’ve felt really stressed, yeah.
david:okay. so i definitely had a lot of stressful times in my life, but i think that i’ve become better at dealing with it over the years. before we maybe talk a little bit of ways we can feel less stress, perhaps we should talk about where stress comes from.
i think this is something that is in some ways subjective but in other ways objective, because people have different takes on it, but then science also tells us a thing
or two about it. right?
so i think that we feel stress when we feel overwhelmed, when we take on more than when we feel we are capable of handling, or when we have a lot of things going on at the same time and we have no idea, or we don’t feel confident in prioritising the different tasks or events that are going on in our lives.
and i think another thing possibly, not possibly, i’m pretty certain, makes us feel stressed is when there’s something very important that we have to face or deal with and we are worried about our ability to perform. this could be perhaps an exam. it could be organising a special event that means a lot to you and i think that, when we feel pressure and we have a big load of work or a lot of tasks that we need to complete. i think these can be big contributors to stress. chris did i miss anything?
