Title: Describing My Family
Level: Beginner
Objective: To introduce vocabulary and sentence structures to describe
family members and to provide an opportunity for students to practice describing their own family.
Materials: Pictures of family members, flashcards, worksheet
Warm-up: Greeting and introduction
1. Ask students to introduce themselves and say something about their family.
2. Introduce the topic of describing family members and ask students to brainstorm the different words they know for different family members.
3. Present the vocabulary for family members using flashcards or pictures: father, mother, sister, brother, grandmother, grandfather, aunt, uncle, cousin.
Activity 1: Vocabulary Practice
1. Distribute flashcards or pictures of family members to students.
2. Ask students to match the correct family member to the word or picture.
3. Students can work individually or in pairs.
Activity 2: Sentence Structure Practice
1.
Introduce sentence structures for describing family members:
– My father is tall.
– My mother has long hair.
– My brother is funny.
2. Provide examples and ask students to practice making their own sentences.
3. Encourage students to use the vocabulary they have learned.
Activity 3: Describing My Family Worksheet
1. Distribute the worksheet.
2. Ask students to fill in the blanks with the correct family member and description.
3. Students can work individually or in pairs.
Closure:
1. Ask students to share their worksheet answers and their favorite family member.
2. Review the vocabulary and sentence structures.
3. Assign homework if desired, such as writing short paragraphs describing their family members.
